An Art Tour! with Tappan

There are a lot of sentimental aspects and memories attached to the pieces of art in our home. A number of pieces I've collected over the years from my travels and those all have standout / special memories attached to them. Memories of wandering into galleries in Paris, art trips to Oakland and San Francisco with girlfriends, and seeking out artists and going to their shows which is always just so fun. I also love a vintage hunt so I have a few pieces I've found while vintage shopping in New York and from late night browsing on 1st Dibs.

Tappan asked to feature me in an Collector Profile which was a really fun excuse to finally ask my girlfriend Stephanie to help me photograph our home! So I thought I’d share a little from that feature here and hopefully give you a dose of inspiration if you’re looking to fill your home with art but find the process a bit overwhelming.

Tappan is an amazing site for discovery, inspiration and to seek out new and emerging artists. I have found Tappan to be a really approachable gallery… in an art world that can feel overwhelming. It's nice that they have a gallery space in LA now that you can visit as well.

My best advice for anyone shopping for art is just to buy what you love! Pop into galleries when you're traveling. Follow artists on Instagram (you can reach out to them directly to see if they have any available works). Don't over think it... if I love it I know I'll find a space for it. We are probably almost overflowing at this point, ha. I also really love small pieces on large walls and large pieces in smaller spaces. It all works and can be really interesting / tell your story!

* Tappan is currently running their only sale of the year so this is a great time to browse ~ 20% off with code: COLLECT

We had been looking for a larger piece to fill this wall for years now and this painting by Satsuki Shibuya couldn't be more perfect. It strikes the perfect balance we were looking for... and feels like the most peaceful energy. We wanted to bring color into the room and yet find a piece that was very calming... that wouldn't completely take over the space / make the room feel smaller. The subtle pop of green also matches our kitchen island perfectly and pulls a lot of the colors we have in our home together.

You can discover more from Satsuki Shibuya here. And if you’re looking for larger abstract pieces check out Petra Scott as well… I’ve been really drawn to her work. If only we had more walls to fill!! ha

FormH2-2 by The Heidies

All of the Heidies photography is so beautiful ~ such a cool collaboration!! I'm obsessed. I find them to be very interesting and makes everyone stop and take a second look which is what I love about art!

I am definitely drawn to a very similar type of art. I guess I would call our collection linear and I love abstracts... I sort of unknowingly have bought a few checked pieces of art as well over the years (I have a thing for checks!). I love Joan Mitchell / Cy Twombly and am drawn to any pieces that have the same resemblance. They evoke a mood, have pops of color and yet are really calming to me at the same time.

Versos by Leigh Wells

I've been drawn to Leigh Well’s collages and drawings for a while now, I just find them really interesting and beautiful. I love that she is a local, Sausalito artist and I love making floral arrangements so her floral pieces really speak to me especially.
