I’ve felt in a state of evolution for the past few years… in every way from my personal style to home decor… moving from my early 30’s into later 30’s... even the phase of motherhood I’m in. I went to a Mother Mag event this past Sunday with a group of women in various stages of their motherhood journeys and was reflecting on how good it feels to now be in this stage of life. I’m coming out on the other side of those toddler years… more confident and sure of myself in all of the areas. As one mom said: “I’m in my me era”… same!!
If anyone is feeling similarly or in a state of evolution, something that helped me the most over the past couple years was this practice of editing and paring back. Editing out what’s not exciting me (within a space, or your closet… or even tasks)… gives so much clarity around what I do love! This helps so much… and often I’m most creative / inspired and happier with less to work with.
As someone who is very affected by my space (and aesthetics)… simply taking out what I didn’t love in a room and living with a bit of a blank canvas for some time helped me so much. Over the past year or so I did this in various rooms of our home… editing out what didn’t feel like me (anymore). And now I’m finally at a place of understanding what I want to add back in. I finally finally ordered the chairs I’ve been wanting for our living room (in shearling) and a couple new rugs in places we’ve been needing them.
And after taking down some of our art and living with blank walls for most of the summer (I’m reframing a few pieces)… I’m now on the lookout for more color.
Here are a few items I’m adding in… and what’s inspiring me.
