I’ve struggled with my summer style in the past couple of years but after a week away in Ojai, living out of a suitcase, and being really happy with everything I brought I’ve realized the joy of summer dressing is in the carefree simplicity for me!
I lean hard on those effortless easy staples... always with a mix of older pieces with a few new things… (refreshed basics, accessories etc.)… but this is the first summer in a while that I feel like I’m more sure of my style if that makes sense?
By Malene Birger Top (all sizes here). Shorts. Flats (more sizes here). Bag.
These have been my most worn pair of shorts. They’re a nice high-rise, slightly longer style that feels modern and polished.
Have you seen this new larger Toteme tote?! It would be a great work size for those in need!
Linen Pants (similar pair from J.Crew on sale).
Jenni Kayne Sweater (another lightweight knit staple for layering) code: ALICIA15
Black Tank. old Nili Lotan Linen Shorts (similar linen black pair, a chic new season pair in khaki from Nili, similar feel on sale, this breezy pair too). Christopher Esber Jelly Sandals*.
* The Christopher Esber sandals are really flat so not the most comfortable for longer city walking but an ideal sandal to head to the pool in (or in this case just a couple blocks, for a morning spent at the park and an outing to the bookstore).
This raffia hat was restocked in the natural (code: ALICIA15) I really love this one because it’s easy to pack and the sides fold up nicely.
Wearing an older Dôen top (this tank gives the same feel)… with these shorts. I’m really loving these white shorts as an easy option over swimsuits ~ giving me that Isabel Marant / Chloé bohemian summer vibe I was craving for vacation (for less). Also, they’re lined which is nice, so they’re not as see-through.
Also love this sweet pair from Dôen.
Downtown steps in my Freda Salvador ballet flats* ~ always the comfiest for those true city walkers. Buttery soft leather and these have a nice amount of padding too if you’re on your feet a lot during the day.
*code: 10ALICIA for first time shoppers
Necklaces | Jane Pope Box Chain, Celine letter necklace with a Foundrae charm and Smith & Mara did a really special small drop of stone necklaces that are great for summer layering. (A couple additional colors: rainbow and ruby and blue).
Ulla Top ~ I’ve been crushing on this floral print from Ulla this season! And the swimsuit version (strapless white floral, bikini version in black, black one piece).
J.Crew Straw Bag from a night at soccer practice (this is a nice larger / medium size for schlepping all of the summer things and the longer straps make this one really comfy for carrying).
Khaite Studded Boden Sandals ~ these also have a nice padding in the footbed so they’re extremely comfy! I love these so much more in person than I actually thought I would. Great for dressing up a summer look (in place of a heel).
A.Emery Sandals | These are a more narrow style, similar in fit to the Kinto that I wear all the time! (I take my true size in A.Emery)
Lastly, I can’t actually remember where my longer chain is from (but I’ve found that 18-22” inch chains are nice longer lengths for summer layering / charms ~ here’s a similar delicate chain and this one too)
