I always come back from New York feeling that dose of refreshed energy and inspiration. Some trips I leave exhausted (trying to do it all and see everyone!… one too many drinks and late nights)… but this trip I left on a high. The people / style watching is one of the best parts of being back in NY… you can really tell the difference between the uptown and downtown styles if you walk the city. And as I was taking notes of what everyone was wearing it was a good reminder ~ when in doubt black always feels right! (My fall / winter uniform). It was a good reminder that we don’t need all of the things! I came back home and lived in the same black oversized sweater this week.
I’m at that age now where I don’t want the trendiest pieces but those classics that I know I’ll wear on repeat…
Mood Board Of Sorts | Knit Dress. Bag. (Jewelry is Dana Rebecca: Earrings, Necklace). Black Dress. Splurge-Worthy Denim (more sizes here and here). Boots.
Of Note from my week!…
This Ulla dress has the prettiest subtle shimmer (also available here). It would be perfect for Thanksgiving as it’s a very comfy knit with a nice stretch and the pleated bottom is just so pretty when you walk! Also, would be a winner to wear for a holiday office party (in fact I might wear this one to my husband’s since it’s quite conservative). I like to wear a dress like this with flat boots for comfort ~ and I think a lug boot (I wore it with these) gives it that touch of more unexpected edge I like. Ulla has some of my favorite prints and holiday dresses at the moment btw!! I also mentioned this top in my last newsletter ~ it’s such a good one to wear with denim.
Velvet pouch is from Dôen… it comes with this RMS beauty soirée set which would be such a special gift!
These Dana Rebecca hoops haven’t left my ears since I got them. If you’re looking for a gorgeous splurge jewelry piece this holiday season I can’t tell you how much I’m obsessed with these. They’re stunners. (This necklace, I’m also wearing above, is a nice simple everyday piece and length for layering). I’m excited to be collaborating with Dana on a special curated edit ~ coming soon so stay tuned!!
50% Off Private Sale is happening on Net-A-Porter!! Run don’t walk… I search by designer to see what’s interesting / that way it’s less overwhelming.
24S has a Secret Early 30% Black Friday sale happening on this selection of designers (with code: First30)!! ~ 24S has such a dreamy Parisian edit of brands (often times you can’t find them in the US so I always love to browse their site). I recently scooped up this skirt for the holidays and it’s such a pretty shimmery one / a classic that can be dress-up in so many ways.
Moda Operandi also has a VIP Private Sale happening (40% off)
I pulled together a holiday mini style edit for the kids here… pieces to take them through this festive season. This was just too fun to browse and pull together!! J.Crew’s Holiday Mini Campaign?! I want these looks for myself. H&M’s Holiday Campaign as well as La Coqueta (for more splurgy special holiday dresses) are also equally adorable for a browse!
Jenni Kayne’s BF sale started early as well if you’re planning to order any gifts **(use code: EARLY)
Maybe it was the warmer fall weather we caught while in New York ~ but almost all of the 20’s / 30’s crowd were in short shorts or skirts with a calf-length boots. To be honest, it was a moment of feeling my age (39)… as short shorts and boots is just not me. But I did come back craving a calf-length boot (this pair is now on my dream list after trying them on in New York). I’d totally wear this boot with mid-length dresses and shorter mini dresses for sure! Reformation has a similar style to recreate the look.
These are also be a nice height boot / option to wear with dresses. They’re really pretty in chocolate brown and this lighter taupe too.
There were still a lot of pops of red on the streets in New York.
And I saw a lot of Salomons and Autry’s walking around on the streets. Have you tried either yet? They’re both so comfy!
Lastly, there were more sweatshirts and sweatpants on the streets downtown than I would have expected (also, the younger crowd). But there’s a way to do it in a non-sloppy more styled way… i.e: with a great coat on top. This has been my best splurge sweatshirt (washes really nicely… Suzie Kondi is great for elevated basics!) and I am also a big fan of this one and this hoodie for a more knock around style.
How do the Khaite denim jeans fit? What size do you wear? Thx
