To Know Yourself Is To Know Your Style
Some good basics from my week... and sticking with what works (style-wise)!
This post is your friendly reminder to a) hem your spring denim and b) stick with what works / you feel your best in (style-wise)!
A little nugget I took away from a conference recently was when Rati (President & CEO of The Real Real) said: “…to know yourself is to know your personal style.” This was in reference to shopping vintage / secondhand… and truly understanding your own personal style will in turn make you appreciate imperfections (i.e: when you find that dream handbag secondhand ~ and the slight love and wear just add to the story and make it cooler, in my opinion!). I resonated with this so much as in those times I’ve felt a bit lost personally (…thinking back to those early postpartum years of motherhood)… I’ve also lost a sense of my own style. Having a strong understanding of yourself helps to train your eye!
Whether shopping vintage, home… Net-A-Porter or Zara ~ having a clear vision for yourself will help you edit and narrow down what is for you!
All this is to say, this week I lived in the basics and it was a reminder that we don’t need to reinvent the wheel ~ but stick to what works and you feel your best in!
Here’s what I’ve been wearing on repeat lately…
Reminder to take your spring denim to get altered because there’s nothing worse than wanting to wear that pair you haven’t hemmed yet! Case in point, I cuffed this pair and wore them out below but they didn’t quite work.
*This is a vintage pair of Levi’s that I picked up while in LA last month ~ similar straight leg to the 501 ‘90s (currently 30% off).
A few posts ago I mentioned that you could also size up for more of a boyfriend fit but after trying in two sizes I would actually take your true size (as one size up was pretty baggy on me). If you’re shorter you’ll probably have to hem them but since they are a looser style you could crop these into an ankle length for more of a comfy knock-around-mom-mode style. My preference! I think Ssense does a better job of showing the fit here (this is an ankle crop which is nice for fellow shorties) and here (the ideal spring cream pair).
Also of note from this week ~ I mentioned Vestirsi as a nice save handbag brand if you’re looking for a minimal spring bag (at a friendlier price point). Vestirsi kindly offered to send me a bag and I chose this suede shoulder bag... which is the ideal slouchy shoulder bag! Honestly the slouchiness is something I’m always on the hunt for and is rather hard to come by… but with the structured base when you set it down. Which I appreciate!! Vestirsi is an Australian label, but everything is made in Italy with Italian leather and craftsmanship. This is such a great bag for the price point… comfy on the shoulder and nice and roomy for a little more then the everyday essentials. It also comes black leather, dark brown suede and in a larger hobo size too.
I’ve also been living in this Toteme trench since getting it. Not all trenches are created equal ~ and this is one that just feels extra luxurious when you put it on. I have had the same couple of trench coats for years now and haven’t really felt a need for a new one but this season’s longer lengths were tugging at me … and I wanted one that draped in a really chic way. As with all of my staples from Toteme… I know I’ll get my wear out of it (and honestly already have this month). Sadly sold out in the desert but available in black still. *size down as it’s quite oversized, I’m in the 30
It was one of those busier weeks where I’ve been living in the same easy casual mom-mode staples (like this J.Crew sweater that I like one size up for that cozy sweatshirt-like vibe).
Mix-matched earrings are Foundrae ~ I also have an R on one ear and a W on the other. White gold single hoop (gorgeous similar gold hoop).
And my chain is the box chain from Jane Pope. I’ve mentioned this one previously as well but it’s such a good one if looking for a great thicker everyday chain. And the longer lengths would be good for putting charms on.
Lastly, are you on the Reebok train yet (in green, also good)? Beyond comfy with a nice amount of cushion! These were my spring sneaker buy and many of you have DM’d me that they’re all you wear now. I like that I don’t see these as often (compared to Adidas) and they give a retro vibe!
Loved this! I’ve been eyeing the JP chain since you shared it. Any chance of a code in the near future?
