Hello from a quick art-filled visit to LA! This weekend is Frieze, and I tagged along on my husband’s work trip (taking advantage of that hotel room!) for a little art browsing and a date night. He’s a hard one to pin down during his busy travel season so I’m happy to hop on a flight if it means I get to meet him at the bar at the Sunset Tower! We grabbed breakfast yesterday at the Fountain Coffee Room (love that old-school diner counter feel) in The Beverly Hills Hotel and walked through the neighborhoods to get there which is something I always love to do when down here. The sun is out and that spring energy is in the air! It feels really good to be here during happier times... a city that always fills my cup up with inspiration.
Wearing | Top by Zankov (designer to watch) and Alaïa flats, and I packed my purple Khaite Olivia bag (from a couple seasons ago) because I was feeling color! It is Frieze after all!! But even for art events I always just want to dress like myself… otherwise I feel so uncomfortable and like I’m trying too hard. I hate that feeling!! My Alaïa flats were comfy for a long day on my feet, and I brought one pair of boots to wear with a Zankov skirt to dinner (another cool textured skirt option).
And this gorgeous floral painting above at Tappan* ~ by Lisa Hardy. Did one of you get it?? I swear it sold after I posted it and it’s just so dreamy so I’m hoping one of you are the lucky owners now!
* A portion of the proceeds (and most galleries in Frieze are going towards the fires)
Wear Now | Brown Leather
We all know brown is having a moment but it really softens the look, especially if wearing all black… and is the perfect transitional hue to wear right now. I packed light for LA and this was the only jacket I brought … which turns out was ideal as it’s feeling like spring this week! I’ve been wearing it with my Levi’s during the day and skirts in the evening which gives that nice balance of not overly dressed up… but more downtown cool which always feels more me.
* one size left here (I’m wearing size 34 and I’m 5’1’’ for reference) ~ it’s that perfectly worn in, buttery soft leather
Day to Night Dressing | One Brown Jacket
Art Gallery to Dinner | Victoria Beckham Lip Balm. Leather Jacket. Earring. Sunglasses. Lisa Yang Cashmere Skirt. Khaite Jeans. 90s Bag. Boots.
Casual Around Town to Cocktails | Green Skirt (on sale $22). Brown Leather Jacket. Sunglasses. Mixed Earrings. Ecru Denim. Cargo Jacket. Boots (a heeled option).
If you’re on the hunt for an ecru spring Levi’s! I would size up in this pair and crop them for a slightly looser fit (personally). I just ordered one size up to give this a try for us. I think it will give more of that vintage feel and look. Or maybe try two sizes and see what you like best!? And here’s another high-waisted pair that you could dress up. I’d wear them with heeled boots to dinner.
** Note | If you’re a paying Subscriber here you already knew that a brown leather jacket was high on my personal wishlist for spring… (I’ve decided I’ll continue sharing and make What I’m Eyeing and Buying a regular post for paid Subscribers but if you’re not, I also save a lot of pieces I love and own here too). Thank you as always for supporting my content ~ it truly means so much. One of the main reasons I wanted to jump over to Substack was to share more openly and honestly again (I’m not sure when I felt this shift but putting up that paywall feels like a safe space for me again in this world of social media these days). So please continue to share more of what you’d like to see here so I can make it as helpful (and enjoyable) as possible for you!
xx Alicia
Love these brown leather jacket looks! I find that the brown leather makes outfits look so cool and is less harsh than black leather (if that makes sense, lol). x
Loved everything you shared! 🙌🏼
