I turned 40 last year and instead of 1 big party where I only got a few minutes with each person I loved, I scheduled some 1:1 some with my favorite people. A friend from the West Coast flew in for a few days. A hiking & lunch date with another. My mom got me a plane ticket to go see her ( leaving this AM!) without the kids, just mom/daughter time. A few things that got planned for this year too, so its extended the celebration! these dates are so hard once everyone has kids or moves around a bit, so having this "excuse" to get together with my favorites was just was I needed.
Oh I love this so much! My friends are all spread around too in various cities so this is a great idea!! Have the best time with your mom this weekend!!
Hi Alicia, I’m going on safari in East Africa this June and would love to see a safari edit! Leggings or hiking pants? Technical or linen jacket? What kind of hat? So many questions.
Oh so fun! I've never been but I have a few friends who have gone on safaris and said they relied on layers because it's cooler in the mornings and evenings / but warm during the day. I think yes a lighter weight rain / cargo or linen jacket and neutral / khaki colors. And I think they dressed up somewhat (maxi / comfy dresses for evening) I'll have to ask them again for more specifics!!
Celebrated my 40th at French Laundry. Other 40th celebrations for my friends included Zion national park and an epic hotel in Todos Santos Mexico.
I treat myself with bubble baths, making a cappuccino at home and sipping while reading, not setting an alarm once a week, splurging on shoes or a handbag, and trying to get 8+ hours of sleep a night!
Love to hear more ideas about celebrating turning 40! I'm celebrating in the fall and am thinking to possibly do a Big Sur road trip, hiking and stay at a more luxurious spot along the coast as a treat! Any recommendations? Also love your insider posts about SF. Love visiting there and checking out more hidden gems!
I agree, I love hearing what everyone is doing. My husband and I stayed at Post Ranch a few years back and we still talk about it and dream of going back. It was just so peaceful / quiet... amazing views and felt really special.
